The Toronto Community consists of approx 110 initiated men. While focused in the Greater Toronto Area we have I Groups 50 miles north and west of the GTA as well. Men have been sitting is circles as early as 1993; however the real growth has been in the last 5 years. We have had between 20%-30% growth in active men in each of those years. Over 70 men have been initiated in the three NWTA’s we have put on in the last 3 years.
Our Community has had a full elected Board for the last 2 years and we were blessed as an MKP Community in Glen Ivy 2009. The Community operates primarily on voluntary dues/donations which are now entitled to a charitable receipt. Any positive cash flow from trainings is eventually planned to be primarily returned to initiates through scholarships. We are actively working on developing a Community wide Mission of Service as well as at the I Group level. Our Special Events Coordinator plans several Community activities such as Family Bar-B-Q, Chataqua and Seasonal Dinner during the course of the year. Toronto is the largest culturally diverse city in Canada and with that in mind we have an active Multi Cultural team that is reaching out to the various ethnic communities that make up the GTA.The Toronto Community is an active sub-area of our Mentoring Centre, Windsor Detroit and we are also a voting member of MKP Canada. Our intention is to apply for Developing Centre status within the next 12-18 month.
