The Mankind Project - Diversity and Safety
The ManKind Project® is a progressive men's organization striving to be increasingly inclusive and affirming of cultural differences, especially with respect to color, class, sexual orientation, faith, age, ability, ethnicity, and nationality. The ManKind Project is an educational 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and is not affiliated with any Religious Practice or Political party.
Men involved in the work we do come from all walks of life, from diverse social, economic, religious and educational backgrounds. They are bikers and cyclers, professors and plumbers, lawyers, doctors, counselors and waiters. The have high school diplomas and multiple advanced degrees. They are rich and poor, gay and straight and bisexual, married, partnered and divorced. They are college students and retirees. They are priests and pastors, rabbis, shamans and atheists.
In 2008 we adopted an Institutional Stand On Abuse, affirming our values as men and a world class men's organization.
In 2007 we adopted a position on Sexual Orientation, affirming our support for every man, regardless of sexual orientation or belief.
Since the mid 1990's we have been conducting Multi-Cultural trainings within our centers and nationally. We have an active Multicultural Council and a commitment to the ongoing examination of ourselves and our culture in order to truly embrace and celebrate (not simply tolerate) our differences. We have had triumphs and failures. We regard the process of self-examination and personal responsibility for our beliefs, prejudices and biases - conscious and unconscious - as essential to resolving many of the conflicts facing modern men.
We are committed to the physical, spiritual and emotional safety of the men who attend our trainings and participate in our communities. This does not mean that every man will feel comfortable in our circles, but every man is welcomed to join us.
