Personal Mission:

To create peace in New Orleans

Action in the World:

United for Peace In New Orleans is a coaltion of concerned citizens using nonviolence to build peace in New Orleans. Using arts, songs, stories, speeches and silence, we forge creation and community. Every Tuesday, we hold a Moment of Silence on Martin Luther King Boulevard, there, we pause one second for the now 558 New Orleanians lost to the violence of the city since the Storm. Afterwards, we tell the story of one of those souls we lost to man's inhumanity. After the Moment of Silence, we work with the mothers of the victim and support them in creating their dreams and living in their child's mission. We have several projects around New Orleans promoting peace and the power of our work came on November 1st during our first Peace Pilgrimage. There, over 40 families who lost a loved one to violence united and marched around Central City, New Orleans most violent area. Artist from New Orleans painted pictures for the mothers to hold, musicians sang songs dedicated and written to honor specific souls and the New Orleans community pledge to honor certain citizens through large community projects named "Gifts of Peace" which aim at rooting out the violence of the city. The Peace Pilgrimage can be witnessed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIpslUUw7mg
