Mission of Service for William (Bill) McMillan

William (Bill) McMillan.jpg

Personal Mission:

I create connection and community through compassion and service.

Action in the World:

Our warrior brother and colleague Bill McMillan is a man who lives his mission. He has been a strong participant in MKP work and a leader in Boys to Men Southern Oregon from its inception.
We particularly honor Bill for his outstanding inspiration in creating, sustaining and holding the Welcome Home Project for veterans in collaboration with his wife Kim Shelton. http://welcomehomeproject.ning.com/
The Welcome Home event was held before a packed house in the Bowmer Theater in
Ashland on Memorial Day, 2008, following a retreat with Michael Meade at Buckhorn Springs (read John Fisher-Smith's blog The Raven's Perch for an essay about that evening). http://tinyurl.com/yztgmsz See preview of Kim's movie, Voices of Vets,http://www.marioninstitute.org/serendipity/welcome-home-project which documents the Welcome Home Project retreat and public performance. It was aired recently along with Craig Comstock's interview with Bill on Like WOW! for RVTV Channel 15.
The Welcome Home Project carries the sacred warrior spirit with deep compassion for all men and women wounded in body and soul who protect our country and fight our wars. It helps us see and honor our veterans in their humanness, and their nobility separate from judgments we might hold about the political causes of our wars. This project deserves our attention because it is an incredibly healing model, not just for veterans, but for our entire society. There is a huge need for understanding and awareness, as well as a spirit of forgiveness. By honoring Bill McMillan we are supporting him and also honoring Kim Shelton, his life and project partner for their work in spreading this enlightening and healing process throughout the land.
